In 2006, male drivers were involved in 57 percent of the total crashes and 72 percent of the fatal crashes, although they constituted only 48 percent of licensed drivers.

In 2006, ‘changing lanes improperly’ was the top contributing factor in fatal crashes for both males and females. However, ‘exceeding the speed limit’ was the second most prevalent contributing factor for females versus ‘driver lost control’ for males. ‘Following too close’ made the top five list for males but not for females, while ‘wrong side of the road’ made the female top five but not the male top five.
