View from the Safety 2 Kids Safety Fair at Gwinnett Place Mall

On September 25, 2004, the Governor's Office of Highway Safety along with Easter Seals North Georgia and WSB-TV Channel 2 hosted the Safety 2 Kids Safety Fair at Gwinnett Place Mall. The Georgia Traffic Injury Prevention Institute also helped with volunteers for the Fair.

The Safety 2 Kids Safety Fair brought child health and safety experts to Gwinnett Place Mall to create a convenient one-stop-health-shop targeting families with children from infancy to age eleven. “Ninety-percent of unintentional childhood injuries can be prevented when we arm families with basic knowledge,” said Easter Seals North Georgia CEO and President Donna Davidson. “We recognized that bringing all of these services together for families to experience in one day was a tremendous advantage for parents and children to enjoy in a fun, healthy environment at the mall.”

“We came to this Safety Fair to help save young lives from needless harm,” said Director Bob Dallas of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. “Car crashes are the Number One Killer of our kids between the age of two-and-fourteen. Nine-out-of-ten car safety seats are installed improperly, that is why we had plenty of experts on hand to correct those problems.”

Besides the booster seat giveaway and installation, GOHS trained technicians helped drivers verify their compliance with Georgia’s new state law that requires all children under six to be secured in a car safety seat or a booster seat appropriate for the child’s height and weight. GOHS experts also participated in a free bicycle helmet giveaway to ensure the health of young riders.

Thanks goes out to all of the sponsors and volunteers who made the Safety 2 Kids Fair a huge success. Below are some photographs and comments from the fair. Click on each picture for a larger image.
