| In 1999, the City of Duluth Police Department initiated the Teen Safe Driving Program to reduce the number of deaths among teenage drivers. This program was later adopted by the Governor's Office of Highway Safety where it became the Georgia Teen Safe Driving Program. | ![]() |
In
April of 2001, we developed Operation Drive Smart. a comprehensive teenage
driving education program which consists of four phases. Phase I introduces
eight public service announcement videos to be aired all over the metro
area. Phase II features a dramatic presentation called Ghost Out. It
is played out in front of the entire student body at select high schools
in the area. Phase III consists of the Operation Drive Smart Expo and
Phase IV involves Parental Responsibility Education, which is being
called PRE-Drive. |

| In addition to these efforts, we will continue to conduct Teen Safe Driver Checkpoints to insure student compliance with seatbelt laws. Rewards are given for compliance. We also now offer the Operation Drive Smart Program and Grant Writing Seminar to assist both schools and law enforcement in developing Operation Drive Smart in their area |
