NATIONAL NIGHT OUT IN SAVANNAH---AUGUST 7, 2007

The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, City of Savannah, and County of Chatham would like to take this opportunity to thank all of its citizens who joined in a Police - Community Partnership on August 7, 2007, during the 24th Annual National Night Out Activities.

Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out (NNO) is a unique nation-wide crime prevention program that enables communities to join forces with thousands of other communities across the country in promoting cooperative police-community crime prevention efforts.

In August 2006, the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department coordinated National Night out activities in the City of Savannah, Chatham County areas and we were ultimately awarded the distinction of national recognition by placing 1 st in Georgia and 4 th nationally. Our 2006 event began with the opening ceremony at Daffin Park in which elected and appointed officials, community support agencies, and over 8,500 members of all parts of our community came together to not only demonstrate our collective solidarity and commitment to fight crime and drugs and promote public safety, but also to share common ideas, goals and strategies for working together to prevent crime. Following the event at Daffin Park, elected officials, friends and citizens visited individual neighborhoods where there were various gatherings, cookouts, and community events.

As an innovative city and county wide crime and drug prevention forum, this year's National Night Out was hosted in two phases:

Phase 1 . 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Daffin Park;
Phase 2. 7:00pm to 9:00pm Neighborhood Events.

National Night Out is a positive community event that unites neighborhoods, businesses, schools, local government and law enforcement in our collective resolve to prevent crime and promote public safety in our total community.
