Pictures and Commentary from the October 29th Metro Atlanta DUI Task Force Halloween HEAT Crackdown....

Georgians who drive drunk have morphed this festive weekend meant for kids, candy and costume parties into one of the year’s most dangerous and deadly holidays due to alcohol-related crashes.

Now, one of the least-known facts about Halloween make it one of the scariest nights on the town: On Halloween, more than half of all fatal crashes on our nation’s highways are alcohol-related. “We’re not talking kids’ stuff anymore,” says Director Bob Dallas of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. “Just like on St. Patrick’s Day and New Year’s Eve, impaired adults behaving badly have turned Halloween into another deadly drinking and driving weekend on the Atlanta social calendar.”

On Saturday, October 29th, H.E.A.T. Units from the Atlanta Police Department teamed-up with H.E.A.T. Patrols from Clayton County PD, College Park PD, DeKalb County PD, and the Georgia State Patrol and DUI Patrols from Hapeville PD, East Point PD, and Georgia State University Police to conduct Halloween DUI road-checks around the Atlanta Metro Area. The message and goals were simple: to keep drunk drivers from causing mere scares.
