Bicycle and Pedestrian Grantees in Georgia
Below are some informational links about GOHS bicycle and pedestrian grantees around the state of Georgia.
The Athens-Clarke County (A-CC) Safe Communities Team was formed in mid-2011. The Team includes professionals from Law Enforcement, Public Information, and Traffic Engineering. The Team partners are from A-CC Government, Clarke County Schools, UGA, and the City of Winterville.
Through the weekly meetings, the Team developed the "No Kidding! Pay Attention in a School Zone" campaign. The A-CC Public Information Officer funded and produced the PSA using local children, concerned voluntaries, A-CC Traffic Engineering Staff, and an A-CC Police Officer. The PSA has been shared with the all Clarke County schools and is aired on the A-CC Charter TV Channel. A Governor's Office of Highway Safety grant has been secured to expand the campaign to get the PSA aired on higher visible TV channels and other high visible venues.
With this grant, more campaign blitzes are planned. With the experienced positive results of this campaign, the Team plans to identify other safety concerns and apply similar countermeasures. This Team has opened up positive lines of communication between several agencies and an understanding that we cannot accomplish as much alone as we can together.
