MADD Carroll County receives National President’s Award

Wanice Odell and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) of Carroll County received a National President’s Award September 8th at the 2007 MADD National Conference in St. Louis, MO. In front of an audience of over 600 activists and volunteers, MADD National President Glynn Birch presented the Carroll County Community Action Site leader, Wanice Odell with one of 18 awards given for outstanding work to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking.

MADD Carroll County was honored for successfully implementing several of MADD’s core programs in 2006 including hosting a Victim Impact Panel, holding a law enforcement recognition dinner, assisting with the statewide candlelight vigil, and supporting the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in sobriety check points.

Wanice Odell has been volunteering with MADD since losing her sister Denise White Rivers to a drunk driver 17 years ago.

“MADD’s dedicated volunteers and staff are shining examples of the commitment this organization has to saving lives and protecting our roadways,” says Birch. “I am honored to be able to help celebrate their lifesaving work.”

MADD has helped save more than 300,000 lives since its founding in 1980.
