Photos and Commentary from the November 18th Click It or Ticket Kickoff Held in Macon, Georgia
On November 18th, GOHS, along with law enforcement personnel, legislators, and safety advocates from across Georgia, joined up at the Macon Coliseum to kickoff the newest Click It or Ticket statewide mobilization. The Click It or Ticket education and enforcement program, which stresses the importance (both from a safety and legal standpoint) of wearing safety belts when driving, helped Georgia to increase its safety belt usage rate to 84.5 percent, the highest usage rate in the South.

On November 13, 2004, the Devoted Individuals Visualizing Awareness and Sensibility (DIVAS) chapter of the BACCHUS & GAMMA Peer Education Network received the “Outstanding Network Affiliate” award during this year’s General Assembly (national convention) in Chicago, Illinois. Only seven peer education groups from across the country were given this honor. Primarily funded by the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, DIVAS programming encourages healthy and responsible decision making in the areas of impaired driving prevention, alcohol and drug abuse prevention, body imaging, and sexual assault. BACCHUS & GAMMA is one of the largest active student organizations in higher education today, with over 1,000 active affiliates throughout the United States and in several other countries.

Photos and Commentary from the Appreciation Luncheon for 2004 Educational Grantees
On October 25th, the Governor's Office of Highway Safety held the first of hopefully many appreciation luncheons to honor the hard work and determination of Georgia safety groups dedicated to the cause of education. A packed ballroom at the Callaway Gardens resort came together to hear and share success stories involving a wide variety of safety organizations supported by GOHS. The luncheon also helped to strengthen the ties that bind all highway safety organizations and GOHS as well as to act as an incubator for good ideas and management practices to be spread around the state.

A Mock Display of a Real Tragedy
Story by: Dave Whitaker, The Bleckley Progress
For a small town, Cochran has seen more than its fair share of tragic automobile accidents involving teenagers. While some teens may have heard about the accidents, some may not be aware of just how bad one can be. Especially when alchohol is involved. On Wednesday night, hundreds of students, along with parents and youth leaders, got a first-hand demonstration of the horror which occurs in such an accident.
A mock crash was held at the old Bi-Lo parking lot. The program was sponsored by: the BCHS chapter of SADD, Bleckley County Safe and Drug Free Schools, the Cochran Police Department, the Bleckley County Sheriff’s Department, the MGC Campus Police, Heartland EMS, Cochran-Bleckley Rescue unit, Hons Automotive, Mathis Funeral Home, and the Cochran Fire Department.
