EAST CENTRAL TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT NETWORK BAT TRAILER AWARD CEREMONY

On Monday, August 17, 2005, The Governor's Office of Highway Safety in Georgia (GOHS) traveled down to Wrens, Georgia to present the quarterly traffic records reporting award to the East Central Traffic Enforcement Network (ECTEN). Along with the recognition that goes with being the best region in the state in reporting traffic records with GOHS, ECTEN also received a fully loaded blood alcohol trailer (BAT Trailer) which can used throughout the region for alcohol checkpoints.

"We appreciate and the public appreciates the ECTEN jurisdiction for coming together to reduce traffic deaths in Georgia," GOHS Bob Dallas said. "Traffic injuries and deaths do not respect political boundaries, thus the need for cooperation amongst many law enforcement groups, elected officials, and appointed officials. I give full credit to the hard work of people such as ECTEN Coordinator Chief David Hannah who are responding to the Number One cause of premature injuries and deaths in the state of Georgia," Dallas said.

What made this award even more remarkable and positive was the journey that the members of ECTEN had to do to get there. In October of last year, reporting for ECTEN was only 27%; in winning the award this month, ECTEN had three straight months of 100% reporting amongst all member agencies.

Wrens Mayor Dollye Ward and members of the Wrens City Council were on hand to be part of the GOHS presentation. Wrens Police Chief David Hannah, ECTEN Coordinator, and Deputy Marc Coy of the McDuffie County Sheriff's Office deserve much praise for the hard work in putting together a tightly-knit and well performing team in the middle Georgia.
