BEYOND THE TRAFFIC STOP COMPETITION
The International Association of Chiefs of Police is conducting a national law enforcement competition, “Beyond The Traffic Stop”.
The IACP is looking for officers that have made outstanding arrests, seizures or discovered other criminal or terrorist activity through good police work as a result of a legal traffic stop or high visibility traffic enforcement.
We hear about outstanding arrests and seizures in Georgia all the time from routine traffic stops. The IACP now wants to recognize those officers that use all their experience, training and expertise in “Going beyond the traffic stop” to prove that traffic enforcement is the first line of defense in eradicating the criminal element from our roadways.
The traffic stop for this competition must have occurred in 2004.
Any officer interested in entering a “Beyond the Traffic Stop” incident should provide in narrative form the reason for the legal traffic stop, and all the details leading to the arrest or seizure. Any photos may be included. Please include the date of the incident, the arresting officer(s) name, rank and agency, and all pertinent details. Please indicate if multiple agencies are involved. This award will recognize individual officers.
Please forward all entries to The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Attn. Ricky Rich, 34 Peachtree Street, Suite 1600, Atlanta, GA 30303, by Friday, May 20, 2005.
All entries will be judged in June by the IACP Highway Safety Committee and winners will be recognized at the IACP Law Enforcement Challenge awards in September in Miami, Fla.
“Beyond the Traffic Stop” will be added to next year’s Governor’s Challenge application as a Special Category for recognition on the state and national levels.
If you have any questions, please contact Ricky Rich at 404 886-0829.
Please get your entries in as soon as possible and keep up the good work.
Thanks for all you do in saving lives on Georgia’s roadways.
