VIEWS FROM THE 2011 STRATEGIC HIGHWAY SAFETY FORUM

Jointly hosted by NHTSA and the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), the
2011 Forum incorporated a variety of issues and topics to help create effective,
individualized communications programs utilizing both new and traditional
communication tools.

Throughout the Forum, plenary and interactive breakout sessions focused on such
fundamental communication topics as: target audience segmentation and research;
earned and paid media; social and interactive media; rising issues like distraction,
motorcycle fatalities and speed; including training on the new taglines for alcohol and
child passenger safety.

Special thanks goes out to the many great speakers including NHTSA Administrator David Strickland, GOHS Director Harris Blackwood, the Tombras Group (Lori Cogan, Guy Jacobssen, David Jacobs), MTV's Beth Coleman, SAY Media's Larry Weissman, AAA's Nancy White, The Ad Council's Cece Wedel, and representatives from Turner Entertainment and Turner Sports (Mark Dames and Lee Zell). Additional recognition should also go to Sue Gorcowski, Barbara Harsha, and the dedicated work from all the folks at NHTSA and GHSA.
