APRIL 25, 2009--GMAT DAY 1

GOHS DIRECTOR BOB DALLAS OBSERVATIONS FROM THE ROAD:

Saturday was not only the start of the first ever GMAT, but just about every other outdoor event! Thankfully the weather was spectacular. For me it began with GOHS's young adult and SADD Ford Driving Skills For Life event. While the GOHS website describes it better, it does little justice in describing how great the kids are. Most kids know crashes take more of their peers' lives than anything else, but these kids are doing something about it. Celebrity causes are nice, however they do not hold a candle to what these kids do.

From there it was the Blue Knights Police Memorial Ride from Turner to Falcon Fields. 3000 motorcycles, that was spectacular. It pales to the purpose; the lives of public safety officials gave to protect us. GMAT is dedicated to Tifton Police Motor-Officer Terry Adams. He was killed on his police motorcycle last Wednesday while responding to a call. We all pray for his wife and four kids.

From Falcon Field it was off to ABATE's Rally For Rights event. GOHS appreciates the opportunity to work with ABATE on motorcycle safety awareness and is just a little jealous seeing how much fun they have in the process! Great group of folks and I had the privilege of reading the Governor's, Senate's and House proclamations.

Sunday a.m. we took off with the core team of Ricky, Fred, Powell, Chuck and me. Carrolton was our first stop and thanks to the H.E.A.T. team for the escort and lunch. Just a few minutes of talking with professional traffic safety officers gives one an incredible appreciation for the lives they save. Just think, without them on the road, our driving would be much worse.

From there on to Columbus via LaGrange and Pine Mountain. I can't say this enough, Georgia's beauty is not its interstates, but its state and local routes. Discover them if you want to know Georgia. Thanks, Bob.
