What are the Georgia Strategic Highway Safety Plan and the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety?
o The Governor’s Strategic
Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) is a comprehensive alignment of all highway
and transportation safety plans. The SHSP provides a comprehensive framework
for reducing highway fatalities and serious injuries, enabling Georgia
to make data driven strategic investment decisions. The SHSP considers
the results of state, regional or local transportation and highway safety
planning processes. The SHSP integrates the "four E's" of safety
- engineering, education, enforcement and emergency services efforts.
o The Governor’s Office
of Highway Safety (GOHS) is the “E”ducation agency to
reduce highway crashes, injuries, and fatalities. However, GOHS plays
a major role in the coordination of “E”forcement throughout
the state. The GOHS’s mission is to educate the public on traffic
safety. The GOHS joins many safety partners to accomplish our combined
missions to implement life saving programs.
