On Friday, April 28th, the Governor's Office of Highway Safety along with the Atlanta Bicycle Campaign helped sponsor Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue's Share the Road Proclamation and Community Bicycle Ride at Atlanta's new Atlantic Station development. May is Bike Month in Georgia and the Share the Road program is an educational program designed to help drivers and bicyclists learn to safely "share the road" together.
Governor Sonny Perdue has proclaimed May 2006 as National Bike Month in Georgia to remind motorists and bicyclists to share our roads together in safety. The Governor's Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Patrick Moore, read the Governor's Proclamation about this clean, quiet, and efficient transportation.
GOHS Director Bob Dallas along with his Deputy Director, Rob Mikell, helped kick off the annual public awareness program by bicycling to the event from Dunwoody in order to promote safe riding. Atlanta City Councilmember Clair Muller, Chair of the Transportation Committee, presented the City of Atlanta's Bike Month Proclamation.
Metro area bicyclists participated in a high visibility Community Ride through Atlanta and around the Atlantic Station area. Speakers and representatives from bicycle safety groups, Clean Air Campaign, and the Midtown Alliance were also present at the event.
GOHS and the Atlanta Bicycle Campaign would like to thank everyone who took the time to attend and participate in this great event. To learn more about the Atlanta Bicycle Campaign, visit http://www.atlantabike.org
